Be a Trend-Setter this Holiday Season

Friday, December 26th, 2008

It really frustrates me to think that people still continue to purchase bottles water, almost religiously.  People line up at stores to purchase water for up to 10,000 times the price of regular tap water, despite the polluting and cancer-causing effects in the long term.  Despite this, Americans buy 2.5 million bottles of water ever HOUR.  Consumers continue to purchase these disposable plastic water bottles out of convenience on the shortest of terms.

Here are some not-so-convenient facts about the bottled water most consumers purchase.  The best selling brands of water in the country are Pepsi’s Aquafina and Coke’s Dasani.  Why are these two brands so successful?  Is it a secret water source in the rain forests or a hidden underground natural spring?  Actually its tap water, filtered tap water.  In fact, Coke and Pepsi are selling consumers their soda products, minus the carbonation and flavoring for the same price!

So this holiday season, start a trend amongst your friends.  Get a stylish stainless steel water bottle from New Wave Enviro and fill up your own filtered tap water.  Your friends drinking bottled water will have the same quality water as you, but for thousands the cost!  And your sleek reusable water bottle will look much more stylish than their disposable plastic water bottles.  Next thing you know, all your friends will be rushing to get their own personalized stainless steel water bottle.

Nanotechnology Making Water More Safe

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

New breakthroughs in nanotechnology could possibly be the solution to create clean drinkable water in regions of the world where drought and water contamination is a problem.  Carbon nanotubes could be able to replace the older materials in water purification systems.  This technology is essential with 1 billion people without access to clean drinking water already.  Two-thirds of the worlds countries are expected to have stress related to the shortage of water by the year 2025.

New technology has been developed to make water purification safer and less expensive.  Nanostructured carbon nanotubes with hollow carbon fibers less than a billionth the width of a single human hair will be able to effectively filter water.  The properties of these nanotubes will only allow very small molecules to pass through, stopping viruses, bacteria, toxic metal ions, and large noxious organic materials.

Along with being safe, this technology is also very efficient.  The tubes allow a high flow rate of water through the filter without stopping up the water pressure.  The power required to operate these systems is also much more efficient than any other current water filtration system, requiring less power.  This technology could be coming to household around the world in the near future to deliver safe and affordable drinking water.

Bottled Water Companies Tearing Communites Apart

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

McCloud, California has always been the outdoor enthusiasts dream vacation destination.  The beautiful views, clean air and excellent fishing has attracted tourists from as far as Japan.  The 1,300 inhabitants of this community were living peaceful until the corporation, Nestle, found a business opportunity.

Bottled water giant, Nestle Waters North America, saw a different opportunity in this tightly knit community.  Nestle struck a 100 year deal with McCloud to empty 1,250 gallons a minute from their streams formed by melting glaciers.  This water would be bottled, packed into 300 tractor trailers every day and sell the water for up to 1,000 times the price of tap water.  The bottled water center would be the size of 5 Wal-Mart super-centers combined in one.  Nestle struck a back door deal with McCloud’s town hall to have the plant up and running by 2006.

Nestle had already opened a plant in Michigan that nearly destroyed the ecosystem of the surrounding wetlands.  The plant in Michigan was only drawing 400 gallons a minute; imagine the effects of 3 times that amount emptied from McCloud.  The people of McCloud would not let this happen to their town and have stepped up to prevent the plant from being built.  As consumers, we need to help the people of McCloud by refusing to purchase bottled water from these corporations.  The solution to stop this corporate greed is filtering your own tap water and refilling your own reusable stainless steel bottle.
