The Other Costs of Bottled Water

A first study of it’s kind by the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment, and Security has taken a look at the energy required to produce a bottle of water.  According to the study, it requires 2,000 times more energy to produce a single liter of bottled water than a liter of tap water.  This would explain why something that should cost only pennies now costs $1.50 for a bottle.  There is so much waste involved with the production of this product that is consumed merely for convenience.  The study estimated that an extra 32 to 54 million barrels of oil are used every year to produce the plastic and to ship the bottles across the country.  Over the past 30 years, bottled water consumption has increased from about 6 liters annually to 116 liters, an astounding 2,000% increase.

With the world beginning to feel the effects of energy shortages, we need to find more money saving ideas and energy saving products.  If we all could find a way to remove these needless plastic bottles of water from our lives, we could be saving the environment from harmful carbon emissions and saving a limited resource.  By purchasing a reusable stainless steel water bottle from New Wave and a 10 stage filter, not only will you be saving yourself some serious cash, you will be saving the costs imposed on the environment.
