“Green” Stainless Steel
As we continue our search for innovative products and techniques that foster environmental change and energy conservation, we sometimes forget to utilize those that already do. One such example is stainless steel. It is such a familiar, every-day material that people may overlook the fact that it’s green, in that it’s re-usable, recyclable, doesn’t stain or rust, and can be melted time and again and reformed into new products.
You may think “hmmm, well doesn’t plastic do the same thing?” The answer is yes, except plastic has proven to be detrimental to the environment in more than one way. Plastic is made from oil, which is a major issue worldwide and the source of many problems. Additionally, plastic is a major pollutant when manufactured or tossed away.
The stainless steel movement has materialized into something big. We now find stainless steel products in a variety of shapes and sizes that serve multiple purposes, from portable goods such as food containers and water bottles, to household appliances.
I, Nick Greene, prefer stainless steel not only for its environmental use, but also for its cosmetic appeal. It has such prestige and robustness that I feel it’s added a lot of flavor to my personality, it alone makes plastic look dull and boring. Now, you will never see me without a stainless steel food container or water bottle by my side, whether at my desk or in the gym, even at home!
