Phthalates are industrial chemicals that are added to plastic to enhance flexibility and durability.  Phthalates are employed in numerous consumer products, from medical devices to children’s toys, including water bottles.  However, exposure to these chemicals has proven to be very harmful to humans.  Such health problems that arise from exposure include bone cell death, damage to kidney and lungs, and damage to reproductive systems.
