The Dangers of One-Time Use Water Bottles

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

The State of New York recently placed a 5-cent deposit on bottled water, implying that New York consumers will pay $2 more for a 24-pack of water.  This may be the nudge that many people need to get over their dependency on bottled water and switch to healthier solutions.

According to an article from treehugger.com titled “A World of Reasons to Ditch Bottled Water,” approximately 1.5 million barrels of oil, enough to run 100,000 cars for a whole year, are used to make plastic water bottles, which is one of the reasons why a gallon of bottled water costs 10,000 times more than a gallon of tap water.

The issue shouldn’t just be about the extra cost, but more about your health and the welfare of our planet.  Plastic is essentially no better for us than junk food.  According to Nature Solutions Magazine, 10 brands of water bottles have been found to contain 38 contaminants including bacteria, acetaminophen, fertilizer, solvents and strontium, a radioactive element.  Bottled water is not regulated by the government like tap water is.  So chances are your unfiltered tap water is cleaner than the bottled water you are drinking.

It is highly recommended that you invest in a New Wave Premium 10 Stage Water Filter or Fresh Water Works Water Filter.  Want the convenient aspect of bottled water?  You can purchase New Wave’s BPA free Seriously Safe Stainless Steel or Eastar Resin drinking water bottles.  That way, any water you and your family consume in and out of the house will be purified and healthy for you and the environment!

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

All of the litter caused from one-time use plastic water bottles has driven consumers to purchase drinking water bottles that can be used over and over again.  But what if  there’s an inexpensive water bottle that is both reusable and, at the same time, in the unlikely event that it is thrown away, can be easily recycled? Thankfully, New Wave Enviro offers that exact bottle!

New Wave Enviro’s Eastar ™ resin drinking water bottles fits both of the above criteria.  This product is FDA approved and NSF 51 certified.  Below are some facts about this awesome bottle:

-The bottle is wholly unique in that it carries a “1” recycle code. In the unlikely event these bottles are discarded, they are easily recyclable

-The color in the bottle is a standard consumer tint that is embedded inside the plastic and will not leach

-The 48mm mouth is  large enough to put ice cubes in

The Unfortunate Truth About Bottled Water

Monday, November 16th, 2009

To some consumers, purchasing one-time use water bottles seems trendy and convenient, a perception that couldn’t be further from the truth.  Not only does it dwindle your savings, it’s detrimental to your health and the environment as well.  Below are a few reasons to avoid one-time use bottles:

Bottled water is no better than tap water… Popular brand name’s such as Coca-Cola’s Dasani are simply purified tap water that’s had minerals added back in. For example, if your Dasani water was bottled at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Philadelphia, you’re drinking Philly tap water.  25 percent of all bottled water is taken from municipal water sources, including Pepsi’s Aquafina, ugh!

Bottled water isn’t always pure… That’s right, the labels on many bottles have the words “natural” and “pure” on them, which may be misleading.  The Natural Resources Defense Council recently conducted a test on 1,000 bottles, and found that about “22 percent of the brands we tested contained, in at least one sample, chemical contaminants at levels above strict state health limits.”

You may be drinking more than just water…Pthalates and antimony, chemicals linked to cancer, can leach from the plastic into your water.  This is especially true when you’re bottle is left in a car or any other hot environment, as higher temperatures will melt the plastic.

New Wave Enviro offers a plethora of products that will have you saying goodbye to the one-time use bottled water industry.  The Premium 10-Stage Water Filter addresses consumers’ water and taste needs by filtering out such contaminants as carbon, chlorine, and dioxins.  On the run?  Pour your filtered water into New Wave’s 304 Food Grade Seriously Safe Stainless Steel Water Bottles.  The .6 liter Stainless Steel bottle comes in six brilliant jeweltone colors, and unlike one-time use bottles, is durable and reusable.  New Wave’s personal bottles are free of BPA, lead, and the previously mentioned pthalates and antimony.  New Wave is confident that all of its stainless steel products handily pass the Consumer Product Safety Information Act (CPSIA) requirements.

Your Pets Need Filtered Water Too

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

It’s not uncommon for people to drink filtered water while their cat or dog’s water bowl is filled with bacteria-laden water straight from the tap.  And dogs sometimes revert to using toilet bowls as a resource for drinking water, ugh!  Why should our furry companions drink lower quality water than us?

The fact is that municipal and well water can contain many harmful things, even parasites.  And they don’t discriminate between pets and people.  Chemicals known to cause cancer in humans, such as chlorine and dioxins, are just as harmful to animals as they are to us.  Cats and dogs, the two most common pets, need fresh water and plenty of it.  With water being such a crucial part of a pet’s health, it is no wonder animal experts agree that pets should be given the same quality water as humans.  So protect your pets from the same contaminants that we protect ourselves from by using a 10-stage filter to purify our tap water.

New Wave Enviro also offers a self-refilling pet watering bowl, so your pets can stay  healthy and hydrated even when you are gone on vacation.  These self-refilling watering bowls are the perfect way to keep your pets with plenty of water, ready to drink.  These bowls come with a 1/2 gallon bottle that will keep your pets bowl full at all times.  Worried about a business trip or a long day in the office?  These 1/2 gallon refillable jugs will last.  The refillable bowls come in 5 different colors for households with multiple pets.  Not only will these bowls keep your pet healthy and hydrated, they are a cheap and durable product for everyones’ favorite pets.

The Dangers of Reusing and Heating Plastic Water Bottles

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Many people are guilty of reusing or heating one-time use plastic water bottles to save money and reduce trash.  Doing either of these things is highly detrimental to your health, as they will cause bottles to break down into carcinogenic compounds or release dioxins.

The plastic in water bottles left in a heated car can break down, causing carcenogins to leak into your water.   Famous singer Sheryl Crowe said this is what caused her breast cancer.    The  heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic, releasing dioxins in the water.   Dioxin is a toxin found to be the cause of various illnesses, and is increasingly found in breast cancer tissue.  In fact, a 2002 report by the EPA identified this as the most common cause of the high level of dioxins in breast cancer.  Don’t freeze your plastic bottles with water too, as this also releases dioxins.

New Wave Enviro Products is very aware of the dangers associated with one-time use plastic water bottles, and wants you and those you love to live long and fruitfull lives.  New Wave confidently affirms that all of its reusable personal drinking water bottles are free of BPA and the abovementiond toxins, and will help you achieve the healthy, sustainable lifestyle you’ve been looking for!

BPA Linked to Aggressive Behavior in Children

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Bisphenol-A (BPA) has already been linked to numerous problems, but lately scientists are discovering that exposure during pregnancy is now being blamed for aggressive behavior and hyperactivity in toddlers.  According to “Environmental Health Perspectives,” the higher a mother’s BPA levels during the first 4 months of pregnancy, the more likely kids were going to exhibit behavior and mood changes.
