Pathogenic Germs in Your Shower Water?

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Researchers from the University of Colorado-Boulder recently performed a study testing the levels of pathogens in our shower water.  Using high-tech lab instruments, these researchers analyzed showerheads in nine cities, including New York, Chicago, and Denver, and found that 30 percent of them harbored high levels of Mycobacterium avium (MAA), a pathogen mostly linked to pulmonary disease.  Furthermore, the study discovered that MAA bacteria and other pathogens can clump together and cling to the inside of showerheads at more than 100 times the levels of municipal water.

Although MAA bacteria mostly affects people with immune deficiencies, it has been known to harm healthy people as well. Water spraying out of these bacteria-laden showerheads can spread pathogen-filled droplets that float in the air and are inhaled by humans into our lungs.  Inhalation is the primary way this harmful bacteria enters our bodies.

Thankfully, New Wave’s Premium Shower Filter helps protect against waterborne pathogens.  Creating a pathogen-free environment is just one of the many benefits of using the Premium Shower Filter.  This filter also removes chlorine,  one of the most dangerous poisons in our water supply.

Recent Product Reviews!

See what people are saying about New Wave’s ECO-nomical water bottles, water filters, and more!

Be Green and Save Green: The Premium Shower Filter

“Right away (after my first shower with the filter) I noticed that my hair stayed clean longer.  Meaning, the next day my hair didn’t feel oily.  I am thinking this has to be due to the lack of chlorine drying my hair out, so my scalp didn’t need to over compensate by creating extra oil. ”

The Greater Green:  Corn Resin Bottle with the Better Drinking Water Filter

“This product targets three major environmental concerns: the use of petroleum to create plastics, the incredible waste involved in disposable plastic bottles that we use once and throw away, and the chlorine and other toxins in our drinking water. We have here a reusable water bottle made from corn, not petroleum, that comes with its own filter, making it ideal for filling with regular old tap water.”

Ecokaren: Stainless Steel Lunch Box

“I love the idea of a stainless steel food container for carrying lunch. It’s lighter than glass and you don’t have to worry about breakage.”

Silver Savings: 1 Liter Stainless Steel Drinking Water Bottle

“My Stainless steel bottle is a pretty, bright blue and I love it!  I’ve been using the safe plastic bottles for a while now, and they’re definitely feeling neglected since this one arrived.”

Dasani is Nothing But Tap Water

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Coca Cola’s announcement that its UK version of Dasani brand bottled water came out of the London public supply should hardly have come as a surprise.  Figures from independent beverage research company Canadean show that at least two out of every five bottles of water sold around the world are, like Dasani, fancy tap water, rather than “source” water which comes from a spring.  This metric holds true to the United States as well.

The average American uses 170 plastic water bottles in one year, totaling 50 Billion plastic bottles a year!  So why do so many of us empty our wallets for such low quality water, all while generating all of this litter from plastic bottles?  In terms of conservation and saving money, bottled water is a dry well.

New Wave’s Corn Resin Bottle with the Better Water Drinking Filter offers what one-time use plastic water bottles can’t.  Below are some facts about this awesome, eco-friendly bottle:

-This bottle is made from 100% United States corn and will degrade in just 80 days in a commercial compost.

-The Better Water Filter is carbon based and removes chlorine and organic contaminants from regular municipal tap water.

-Captures the convenient aspect of bottled water.  Take fresh water on the go!

-BPA free!

Fresh Water Crisis

Monday, December 7th, 2009

According to the United Nations, water use has grown at more than twice the rate of population increase in the last century. By 2025, an estimated two-thirds of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed regions as a result of use, growth, and climate change.

While the amount of available water has remained fairly constant over the past few centuries, the population has exploded. And with an accelerating population comes further pollution and consumption of vital resources.  Competition intensifies as the world population competes for a dwindling supply of clean, fresh water to drink and bathe in. Not only does water become more scarce, but more filled with contaminants as well.

New Wave is taking action by providing consumers with the means to acquire purified water.  With such products as the Fresh Water Works Water Filter, which makes 1500 Gallons of fresh, great-tasting water, your family won’t have to worry about the cleanliness of your water supply.  How’s that for some added stress relief?
