Pathogenic Germs in Your Shower Water?

Researchers from the University of Colorado-Boulder recently performed a study testing the levels of pathogens in our shower water.  Using high-tech lab instruments, these researchers analyzed showerheads in nine cities, including New York, Chicago, and Denver, and found that 30 percent of them harbored high levels of Mycobacterium avium (MAA), a pathogen mostly linked to pulmonary disease.  Furthermore, the study discovered that MAA bacteria and other pathogens can clump together and cling to the inside of showerheads at more than 100 times the levels of municipal water.

Although MAA bacteria mostly affects people with immune deficiencies, it has been known to harm healthy people as well. Water spraying out of these bacteria-laden showerheads can spread pathogen-filled droplets that float in the air and are inhaled by humans into our lungs.  Inhalation is the primary way this harmful bacteria enters our bodies.

Thankfully, New Wave’s Premium Shower Filter helps protect against waterborne pathogens.  Creating a pathogen-free environment is just one of the many benefits of using the Premium Shower Filter.  This filter also removes chlorine,  one of the most dangerous poisons in our water supply.
